HEATWAVE!
My friendly companions, I'm off to Nova Scotia tomorrow morning to see my dear mumsy and a handful of the best old friends. I won't be sad to leave this record-breaking heatwave, although I must admit, it's kind of fun to be involved in weather extremes - like blizzards - because it seems to bring people together. And, you get to do things like swim in the outdoor pools at midnight, with the city lights glowing in the background. Pretty romantic.
But! I've really been craving that Nova Scotian salty air, the frigid jellyfish-dodging dips in the ocean (I swear, swimming in the Atlantic ocean makes you younger), eating LOBSTER, and just hanging with my mom in general.
I will attempt to update here and there, but I'm not sure how many promises I can make in the end. I have some VIPS to attend to.

Sale! Sale! Sale!
Over at my etsy shop, Don't Cry Vintage, I've marked a bunch of things down PLUS put every item on sale for 15% off...I'm really trying to get things moving, and as a first time seller there, it's hard for folks to know they can count on you.
So! Here's the deal! If you would like to purchase something from the shop, send me a message on etsy and I will wave the shipping costs on top of the sale discount.
Mention that you saw it here in your message, k bb's?
PS - This is a picture of me (finally revealed here on the Don't Cry Blog) wearing a really sweet witchy caftan that's up for grabs.
AND, Here's the link to the shop: Don't Cry Vintage on Etsy
Brigitte commands you: DON'T CRY
I've been feeling awfully sorry for myself lately.
So I think this is a good picture to gaze upon.
Thank you Brigitte, for commanding me not to cry with the bossiest "Don't (effing) Cry" face I've ever seen.
I think she's also saying "Get Your Shit Together Millman, especially with that aspect ratio business on your blog".

Let's talk about weird cheese.
I would say this cheese is the equivalent to the Sugar/Witch Hazel Perfume I wrote about a while back. Except I've actually had this. And it's amazing! And sweet. And I kind of doubt you'd ever finish an entire block, but that's just me. It seems like you should buy it and split it up with your BFF.
It's from Norway, tastes caramel-y and tangy, and is extremely good on toast (like a dark rye vibe).
Also, you really should use a curly cheese knife because it's too intense to just slice it.
I haven't been eating dairy much lately, so maybe that's why I'm suddenly overtaken with a craving for it.

Blah blergh wah yah Gang Gang
Last night I saw the best show of oh I don't know, maybe 5 years? Maybe more? Maybe less, but I can't remember. Please remind me.
I CLOSED MINE EYES AND DANCED. MINE EYES.
People took their shirts off. We learned that a semi-nude girl had a pac man tattoo.
It was extremely loud and all-encompassing
Basically, it was a rave
Then I had a hotdog on the street with pickles, relish, ketchup, sauerkraut, no onions, mustard, and mayo.
Then I returned home at 1 am to my carbon monoxide alarm alerting me to call 911, and one fire truck came, all lights and sirens blazing, and their meter confirmed I had co2 in my BEDROOM, then another truck was called, then the firemen broke down the door to a neighbours apartment to make sure she wasn't dead, then the police came, then the firemen went back into my apartment, then they shone flashlights on everything, and then the gas company came, and then POOF the meter was back to normal, and everyone left...and I went to bed with this music fresh in my brain.

Eleanor take a Greenpoint 3-point...
Eleanor Friedberger - My Mistakes from Merge Records on Vimeo.
I don't care who knows it, I think Eleanor Friedberger is a great little weirdo.
I haven't listened to this song enough to know if it'll be one of "my jams", but to me it doesn't matter, because I am happy she's here. Plus, as I said to Taraleigh today: "I don't care about any other music than Hip-Hop and R&B". And it's mostly true. And I'm a grown lady. So who cares. I also learned a new internet/text acronym/expression today: 'FFS'. Gonna use this ALL the TIME. It's very Nova Scotian.
*update - I just listened to it again on loud, and it's going to be a great summer jam. Lovely sax solo at the end BRRRAP
** "double up"date (R Kelly reference) - next time you see me, try and pretend you don't notice I just got this haircut. That would seriously embarrass both of us and wouldn't be very Toronto of anybody to speak so frankly to each others faces. Thanks! PS Listening to it again and it's really good. Like 2002 never left!

Old inspiration images
Every once in a while, I work in film as a Costume Designer. (Really though, it's not quite the right term for it. It's more over-arching than a stylist - in that you are working closely with the production designer and the director, etc.. to create a narrative through clothing - but I don't usually have clothing "designed" for the films, and I don't really sew.)
Anyhow, today I stumbled across an old hard drive thingy with a bunch of research pics on it. I spend hours, days, weeks, months, collecting images to get the ball rolling, and here are just a few. I guess they're mainly fashion pics, with the odd film reference here and there.
My apologies - since these only exist as jpegs now, I can't really credit where I first encountered them.
